License Management – Data Platform
Within ISG Digital, I worked behind the customer experience for purchasing digital capabilities on John Deere equipment, such as enabling See & Spray on a combine. During a hackathon, I built a secure data-ingestion pipeline that proved license data could serve internal teams while preserving isolation and access controls, helping make the case for an enterprise Data Engineering team.
Scope
This chapter sat within the Intelligent Solutions Group’s digital organization, close to the technology on John Deere machinery. The License Management product supported the purchase of digital capabilities on equipment—for example, enabling a combine to use See & Spray—and its customer-facing application carried a meaningful share of company revenue.
My work was about safely opening the underlying license data up inside the company: making it useful to internal teams without losing isolation or access-control guarantees.
What I built
- A secure data-ingestion pipeline, prototyped during a hackathon, that demonstrated license data could be shared internally while preserving data isolation and access controls.
Outcome
The prototype made the business case for a dedicated investment, directly contributing to the formation of a new enterprise Data Engineering team.
